The Sakura Matsuri (Cupertino Memorial Park) and Nikkei Matsuri (San Jose Japantown) are on the same weekend, Saturday, April 24 (Sakura only) and Sunday, April 25 (both Sakura and Nikkei). These are the largest fund-raising events for the NCKF all year and requires the participation of as many volunteers from Salinas and other dojos as possible to be successful. The NCKF sets up, staffs and dismantles a food booth at both events to sell tempura to the public. A sign-up sheet for the many duty positions and time slots was e-mailed to everyone. Please make yourself available to help where possible. Learn to cook tempura!
The NCKF Shinsa will be held at Leigh High School on Sunday, May 2. This is a semi-annual examination for kendo candidates who wish to advance in rank by performing their kendo skills in front of a grading panel of senior sensei. Check-in is from noon until 1:00 pm. The shinsa is from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm r later.
The AUSKF Junior National Kendo Championships will be held at Independence High School in San Jose on Sunday, July 25. This is an inaugural national open invitational kendo tournament organized for youths from under 9 to 18 years of age competing in seven separate age and gender groups.
The Salinas Kendo Dojo 40th Anniversary Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, August 22. This will be an important event that requires all members to help organize and operate. Details are forthcoming.
UPDATE>> The NCKF Championship scheduled for Sunday, June 20, has changed locations from Leigh High School in San Jose to Mt. View Buddhist Temple in Mountain View.

SECOND PRACTICE LOCATION>> Monterey YMCA, 600 Camino El Estero. Members of Salinas Kendo Dojo have the option of practicing three nights each week at two locations: SALINAS - Mondays and Thursdays starting at 7:00 pm; MONTEREY - Mondays (7:00 pm) and Fridays (6:00 pm).
